My first day of chemo was today, December 3. It sounds strange but I am so excited to just get started. You can read way to much about my chemo regimen and everything is scary. I have no idea how my body will respond so it is best to just get started (also that means I am one treatment closer to being done).
The actual treatment wasn’t bad. They walked me through everything, which I really appreciated. I started with several pre-treatment meds to help with nausea and sensitivity to the chemo that took a little over an hour. Then I had an hour of Cyclophosphamide and then 10 minutes of Adriamycin (aka the Red Devil). All of the meds drip through the IV to my port except for Adriamycin. The nurse had to manually push this through two syringes for me. I asked why it wasn’t the same as the drip meds and I was told they need to confirm that it is still in the blood stream. They check often to ensure this since it is such a potent drug.
It was easy. I sat in a comfy recliner chair and just did what I wanted for the whole time. I called into a work team meeting, talked with mom and some of the other patients, caught up on email, etc. The only negative was getting the menopause drug again. This is a large shot into my stomach and semi painful.
As the day has worn on, I have gotten a headache and am just tired. I can handle that so far. Fingers crossed things don’t get much worse (although I am expecting it will).
